The Whale Back Bench

The Whale Therapeutic Back Bench which derives its name from its elegantly curved profile is a multi-use tool designed to stretch and elongate the spine while rejuvenating and energizing the entire body.

Whether working at a desk all day or performing some physical task for a living, we are too often bending or hunching forward. After a number of years of unhealthy postures, the back begins to suffer: The muscles become tight, the spine begins to loose its graceful S-Curve and instead becomes rounded or humped.

The Whale provides a way to counteract these problems. By positioning oneself in a gentle backbend the spine is stretched in a way opposite to that required by normal everyday activities thus reversing this tendency toward forward rounding. Stretching on the Whale feels so good, that you will easily find the time to use it daily.

Handcrafted of beautiful woods, the whale will fit into any environment.

WOW, thanks for the post, IamMogs, you just gave me the site for the Thera Cane I call the torture cane!!! And there are instructions for how to use it as well!! On one of my posts I described the cane I use to break up muscle knots in my body…well known to those who have Fibromyalgia. The PT person just showed me how and said go to it! Thanks loads!!

This is one of the most important items to use for ALL muscle knots, Fibro or otherwise!! Hurts like Blazes, but it IS effective. just take it easy when you hit the spot and hold gently against the spot until it softens, then increase pressure a little and so on until it is gone. A good back rub will identify all the spots and there are usually are a bunch because one causes another, which causes two more, etc., etc., etc.

My Chiro suggested a balance table, which I would use, since it works well, but NO, I would never touch the Whale, since it might trigger a ton of pain, and could lead to trouble for upper back problems. Some drs, have their head up their A**, or have never had a back problem, since they give you exercises very few fit people can do. I won't wast time telling you some I have had suggested to me by idiots (write me if you really want to know). I suggest stretching for warm-up exercises which won't create problems where there are none. Later, much, much later you can start to do the ones you think would not hurt and do a few reps and no more till you know it didn't trigger a swarm of pain (about a week). Remember, USA grade school kids often can't do 20 sit-ups, so we as adults are much worse, unless we practice sports on a regular basis.

ONE crazy osteopath gave me shots in the back and smashed down on the muscles even after I said don't do that. I wound up in the hospital in traction for a week to force the muscles to stop scrunching me. It triggered pain in parts of my body which had never hurt before…the head bone does connect to the toe bone, as my Massage Therapist says. TRUE!!

That IS a GOOD example of "It's all in your head," since the brain responds to triggers, and it also learns from past experience, so when you don't get your hand off the hot griddle, the next time you go near hotplates, your brain says, " whoops, that hurts, dummy, don't put your had on it ". Twenty times later it goes crazy and sends repetitive signals of danger(pain), over and over, and over, when it realizes you don't take care of you, and do what it tell you to do. Problem is, you don't see the danger of just one (WHATEVER), so we do it and pay the price for weeks. And by then we forgot what caused the last one…
Have patience, Love yourself, and learn to relax, you have the rest of your life to do this get healthy routine.

(My clients always ask how long will this take? Statistics say 6 months to half the life of the relationship..or the time you have practiced bad health habits!!) So, how long have you had the problem and not known what to do? The reality is, once you have had multiple pain problems, you can never stop healing them…so if the dr. says for the rest of your life it does NOT mean be in pain forever, but you WILL LIVE CAUTIOUSLY the rest of your life. Good luck and have some fun along the way, you deserve it!!

I looked at the wobble board. How can that actually help someone with a balance problem when she/he is already somewhat dizzy?

That is quite a deal. I wonder what it would do to someone who has hardware in their back. I have to agree, it looks like it could really hurt.

What is this thing? Does it make stretching more comfortable? I would like to see a picture of it as well.
